I got in a car wreck..
And I’m starting a new screen-printing project)

In what is perhaps a surprising turn of events the first post of my art blog is about how I got in a car wreck. What was originally just going to be a drive to my college classes after a busy Sunday of doing laundry and sketching for a screen-printing project came to a crashing halt (no pun intended). I fell asleep at the wheel on the highway and accidently drove off the road into a sort of fence barrier thingy (I don’t know what they are called). It shattered the windows on the left side of the car and shards of glass flew into my arms and legs. Thankfully I wore a seatbelt and the car wasn’t brought to a stop during the crash so not only did I avoid being jerked around in my car and possibly hitting something, I was able to pull over and turn on the hazards before calling 911; I also had the leftover fabric from a bedsheet I cut up for a different project I was able to use to put pressure on my wounds.

I wasn’t slammed out of my seat or anything and the paramedics said the cuts looked superficial and might not even scar (I wasn’t sure at first cause honestly there was A LOT of blood). I went to the hospital to have my wounds cleaned and the shards of glass removed, they also gave me some x rays to make sure that I didn’t have any broken bones or anything. Aside from the cuts I was perfectly fine. There were no injuries or broken bones and other than a little soreness from my muscles being tensed up due to stress. The doctors said I was very lucky.

Aside from the whole car crash incident I’ve been working on creating a new screen-printing project for one of my classes. My screen-printing teacher actually has a website of her own and I suggest you check out her work. https://hannahmarchsanders.com/ I finished the sketches and I’m currently prepping the screen to print the design and I thought it would be fun to show you what I have so far. Some of them are REALLY rough but I found a sketch I really liked. (The poor picture quality makes it more authentic, right?)

Of all the sketches I did the sketch in the second photo on the on the right with the sparkling eye is the one I decided to do a print of. While the woman’s face with the person and their shadow forming her nose is a favorite of mine I was worried it would be to difficult. I’ll probably do it as a painting or a more realized drawing since this is only a small sketch. After picking the sketch I wanted to do I then made a larger photo which I would then use to trace the image onto my screen for printing.

Unlike last time where I stenciled the design onto the screen I used drawing fluid and screen filler for the first time. I couldn’t get to printing because I needed to wait for it to dry but I feel like I made a lot of progress, especially since I missed the first day we started the project due to the car crash I mentioned earlier. If you like what you see I would really appreciate if you checked out my art portfolio at https://www.jacksonturnerart.com/artportfolio/. Thanks for checking out my first post and I promise car crashes won’t be a common element of my posts.
