I’m definitely doing more stuff. I did an hour of sketching today and still had the energy to make a blog post. That is more than I could say two weeks ago. I also did a bunch of chores today but got sidetracked with those, mainly because the vacuum got clogged, but overall I can confidently say I am developing the drive I need to be proactive and productive while working at home. It is now about channeling that energy into what is most important and creating a consistent schedule. It’s almost given me a little bit of a sort of imposter syndrome. Like I can do a few chores and sketch and make a blog post but I definitely have ways to go.
My family is being supportive and telling me that I’ve done a lot considering this is all from home but the fact that my executive function hasn’t adjusted means that while I’m being proactive its not in what I want. Like when I want to do art I end up doing a bunch of chores that need to be done and vice versa. I’m happy I can do all this stuff without being exhausted now but I do need a consistent schedule that I am trying to work towards. I’m just happy that my family is as supportive and understanding as they are, I want to be sure that its worth it for them to support me as a result.
So how has my art projects been going?
For my Kirchner recreation I have the sketch done and I’m currently working on the linework. Unlike my previous projects where I viewed it as simply an outline I’ve decided to try viewing it as an expansion of my sketch, playing more with the line shape and thickness as a result.

People tend to perceive thicker lines as being closer than those that are farther away, I’ve been playing with that a little bit so far and I can confidently say I like how it’s turning out. I definitely need to maybe change the lines of the leg though.
I’ve also started another project that I wanted to do for pride month. The sketch isn’t finished yet but it’s going to consist of my OC’s Beck and Gabe standing together with pride flags. I don’t think I’m going to do a background but I do plan to color it.

I’m trying to practice my anatomy and structure while still keeping the character’s stylized designs. There’s obviously more I need to do but I do like how it looks so far. The thing I got stuck on was trying to do muscles that look anatomically consistent but were still stylistically lanky. I also wonder how I’m gonna transfer the anatomy to the looser and baggier clothes that I want Beck to wear.
I’m definitely seeing little bits of progress every week, but I definitely feel like there is still more I have to do, especially if I want to build a portfolio. I need to stop and decide whether or not I want to go into character design, or storyboarding, or both? (I know they recommend having your portfolio be what you want to specialize in so I might make two separate portfolios) I also want to take the time to work on some animation projects and maybe even practice some writing. There is definitely a lot I want to do and while balancing it all will be a challenge I hope I’ll be able to handle it. Thank you so much for checking out my blog and see you next week!
